The Nigeria Fellowship cohort includes energy professionals from four distribution companies that are actively advancing renewable energy projects linked to the grid, including Abuja Electricity Distribution Co., Ikeja Electric, Eko Electricity Distribution Co., and Ibadan Electricity Distribution Co.

Nigeria

George Chinda

Head of Legal, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC)

George Chinda holds a LL.B from University of Calabar (2001) and an LL.M from the University of Dundee (2007), U.K. where he won the Best Graduating Student Award in his class. One of his research papers on electricity is posted in the web. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2003 
 
George is presently the Head of Legal at Abuja Electricity Distribution Company in Abuja. Before then, he worked variously in Rainbow Town Development Limited as Head of Legal and at Allaince Trust Plc and British Telecomm, both in the UK, as Asset Manager and Credit Manager, respectively. His pre-UK experience include stints as Contract Analayst in Moni Pulo Limited and as legal counsel in Manuchim Chambers (SAN). 
 
Besides his primary contracts and advisory protfolio, his larger schedule at AEDC includes Energy Law, Company Secretarial, Dispute Resolution, Energy Contracts, Infrastructure Projects, Taxation & Finance, Project Management, Governance and Regulatory Oversight, Research and Corporate Governance. Hillary Okwudiri Erondu

Energy Audit and Settlement Manager, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC)

Hillary currently serves as the Manager, Energy Audit and Settlement at the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company. His job responsibilities includes; Evolving strategies that ensures AEDC stays and operates within the provisions of the Nigerian ‘Electricity Market Rule’, Development of energy audit and bills settlement strategies and implementation etc. He has 12 years experience in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry both in the Generation and Distribution sub-sector. Hillary was a part of the team of Engineers that built and commissioned the 4 x 12MW gas turbine station at Trans-Amadi Port-Harcourt Nigeria. He also is a pioneer team member of the reputable ‘Revenue Protection Unit’ of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company. At the Revenue Protection Unit, his job responsibilities were the Detection, Protection and Recovery of Energy Theft. Hillary became a Regional Supervisor of the team before he was redeployed to the Energy Management Unit. 
 
He is a lover of sports, especially ‘Soccer’ and spends most of his off-time in acquiring new knowledge. He holds a Bachelor degrees in Power Systems Engineering from the Federal University of Technology Owerri Imo State, and currently enrolled in a Master’s program in Power Systems from same institution.

Olumuyiwa Awoniyi

Deputy Head, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC)

Olumuyiwa Awoniyi is an electrical engineer, has over 18 years’ cognate professional work experience in power system and utility company, developing and executing strategic initiative and proven creative talent for technical and commercial operations. For over 10 years, he has demonstrated skills in managing people and other company resources. I was manager operation and maintenance, manager Planning and construction, Senior manager Revenue Protection Unit (RPU), now the Deputy Head at the Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc, responsible for Network Analysis, Planning, Construction & Investment of the company. 
I have master in power system engineering at University of Abuja, Nigeria and has enrolled for PhD in the same institution. Engr. Olumuyiwa Awoniyi is passionate towards energy sufficiency as the world evolves to use more renewable sources of power.

Omosede Imohe

DER Team Lead, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC)

Omosede Imohe is the DER Team Lead at Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc (AEDC) where she is responsible for developing and implementing a DER strategy for the Disco. She has supervised the implementation of two pioneer Interconnected Mini-Grids within the Disco’s franchise. Omosede has 15 years Corporate & Project Finance experience across key sectors such as Power, Agriculture and Financial Services. Her corporate finance experience has spanned two continents – Europe and Africa where she worked in the Investment Banking Divisions of Morgan Stanley and JPMorgan providing financial advisory services to sub-Saharan African clients. She graduated from the University of Warwick with an MSc in Engineering Business Management after obtaining a BEng in Electronic Engineering.

Change Management Lead, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC)

Odunayo Onafuye is currently the Change Management Lead of Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc. He oversees the transformation initiatives initiated by AEDC. Prior to joining AEDC, Odunayo has worked in Consultancy, providing services to various clients in diverse sectors. He is passionate about building lifelong tribes / communities therefore he volunteers with The Covenant Nation Community Groups. 
Odunayo has a Bsc in Computer Science and an Msc in Occupational Health and Safety.

Opeyemi Folayan Olabode

Lead, Regulatory Consulting and New Generation, Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC)

Opeyemi Folayan is a power system professional with a degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, an alumnus of the Siemens AG Power Academy, certified in power systems technology, renewable system operations and integration. 
He is also a trained financial analyst, process developer and adviser on project implementation and system network administrator owing to his early career experience at Leadway Assurance Company Limited. 
Opeyemi Folayan currently leads the regulatory consulting and new generation opportunities unit of Eko Electricity Distribution Company. He has participated and supervised the development of power projects including the 10MW Island Power, 10.6MW Alausa Independent Power Plant, and 30MW Cadbury Co-generation Power Plant.

Iroghama is Technical Assistant to Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO)of Eko Electricity Distribution Company. My key responsibilities is driving the MD/CEO’s mandate in ensuring increased operational efficiencies by aggressively reducing the ATC&C Loss target, sustaining reliability and availability in power supply across our franchise area by engaging embedded generation to support the national grid, prioritizing energy accounting leading to greater transparency, enhancing liquidity and financial management, improving customer satisfaction index, creating a desirable work environment and ensuring employee welfare and motivation. My academic studies in Accounting and Power Sector certification from Elizade University/Vigeo Power Academy has laid the foundation in the capacity in which I serve. In addition, I am a Chartered Accountant.

Regulatory Analyst, Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC)

Michael Uvere has a first degree in Physics from the University of Ibadan. Ibadan, Nigeria and a second degree in Geophysics from the University of Aberdeen. Aberdeen, UK in 2005 and 2015 respectively. He worked as a Credit & Retail Banking Officer at Sterling Bank Plc for 6 years after which he took up a new role at Eko Electricity Distribution Plc in the Regulatory Consulting/New Generation Opportunities Unit of the Power Procurement & Regulatory (PP&R) in 2019. Michael coordinates rate design/retail tariff modelling, grid power market/invoice settlement and renewable proposal assessment and projects. Michael has contributed to saving EKEDP over N1.2Bn in excess energy invoicing claw back.

Oluwaseun Mercy Adedeji

Project Manager, Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC)

Oluwaseun works with Eko Electricity Distribution Company. Over her five years period of working there, she worked in the metering department for 3 years and also 3 years in the Power Procurement & Regulatory department where she was a business development officer till date. She currently manages a Premium Power and embedded generation projects, where she oversees the commercials of the project, and compliance of the parties to the provisions in the agreement signed. She has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Benin, Nigeria

With professional experience spanning over 10 years, Adedayo has worked as a Network Engineer, Utility Revenue Protection Officer, Metering Engineer, and presently working with Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company as a Project Engineer. His current specialties are in Project Management, Energy Meter Standards and Selection, Meter Installation and Maintenance, Smart Metering and AMI, Implementation of Metering Equipment Vendor Software Systems and Tools, Utility Revenue Protection, Energy Audit and Management, Metering Data Analytics, Electricity Asset & Customer Enumeration, Embedded Generation & Distribution Franchising, and sound knowledge of Nigerian Electric Utility Regulations. 
 
His academic qualifications include HND (Electrical Engineering), BEng (Electronic Engineering), and MSc (Mobile Computing & Communications). He is a Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) and PMI’s certified Project Management Professional (PMP). He is also a COREN Registered Engineer, a Member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (MNSE), and a member of the Institute of Engineering (IET), UK.

Muritala is currently the Head of Performance Management at the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company Plc. (IBEDC). 
 
Prior to joining IBEDC, Muritala had been involved in different capacities, as external auditor and consultant for Benin and Kano Discos, respectively, in the wake of the privatisation of the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI). At IBEDC, he has been involved with projects which includes but not limited to Franchising and Renewable Embedded Generation projects. 
 
Muritala earned a Master of Science in Finance from the University of Lagos and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the Lagos State University. He is also an Associate Chartered Accountant, with interest in Energy Economics, Risk Management and Financial Modelling.

Opeoluwa Afolarin Afolabi

Scorecard Management Lead, Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC)

Opeoluwa Afolabi currently works as the Lead, Scorecard Management in Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), the largest electricity distribution company in Nigeria, where he is responsible for leveraging on insightful analysis of data and reports to drive strategy formulation, execution and monitoring to improve corporate performance. 
 
He is a member of the team responsible for providing the enabling environment for IBEDC to partner with parties interested in providing off-grid energy solutions like Minigrids, Embedded Generation and Franchising. He supports the team in building financial and business models and forecasting costs and revenue accruable to IBEDC from such transactions. 
 
Opeoluwa Afolabi holds an MBA from University of Nigeria, is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria (ICAN), an associate member of Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) and also holds a diploma in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) London.

Busari Saheed Oluwatobi

Lead, Embedded Generation & Renewable Energy, Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC)

Saheed is an Electrical Engineer who is currently employed as the Lead, Embedded Generation and Renewable Energy at the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC). He currently holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master’s in engineering management. His work experience has afforded him the opportunity to develop a good understanding of the building blocks for successfully delivering sustainable off-grid energy transition projects, coupled with the ability to define economically viable approaches to solving problems of varying technical, economic and social complexities. 
Over the years, he has had the privilege of working with multidisciplinary project teams in engineering, project finance, regulatory and government relations as well as renewable energy industry experts in every phase of off-grid sustainable energy project development from the conceptualization stages, through project development stages to the monitoring and evaluation stages. 
He led the team that developed the first commercial interconnected minigird in Nigeria, the 185kW Solar Minigrid located in Ogun State. The project gave an opportunity to test the developer-led model of minigrid development championed by the utility. 
He is a Registered Engineer and a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers.

Folasade has worked for 9 years in the electric utility industry, primarily in the Distribution Company and particularly IBEDC in various capacities. She is currently a part of the network planning team, focusing on development expansion plan to accommodate the additional energy from renewable sources and aligning it with the company’s strategy for meeting the electricity demand within the franchise area. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Ado Ekiti in Nigeria .She is excited for this opportunity to learn and develop further, and most of all to contribute new knowledge for development of the energy sector in Nigeria.

A registered Engineer with the International Association of Engineers (IAENG), registered Engineer with the Council of Regulation of Engineering Practices in Nigeria (COREN), a member of Nigerian Society of Engineers and a spectrum Manager.

Technical Optimization Lead,  Ikeja Electric (IE)

Emeka works as a Technical Optimization Lead at Ikeja Electric Plc. He is mainly responsible for designing a workable solution for embedded and off-grid connections, conducting technical loss study analysis, and forming technical optimization initiatives. Emeka has worked on numerous projects with research publications in renewable energy, power system, distributed generation, and energy economics. Emeka earned a Master of Science (Distinction) degree in Energy Technology and Management from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He is a Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

Fatima Haliru

Power Purchase Lead, Ikeja Electric (IE)

Fatima is a marketing professional with over 12 years of experience. She currently serves as a power purchase lead in Ikeja Electric Plc. She is responsible for partnership engagements with developers and integration of renewable energy technologies on the distribution network.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication and is working towards becoming a Project Management Professional (PMP). She loves reading and dancing.
She has worked in different capacities and job roles, ranging from customer experience in the telecommunications, to relationship management of key accounts in the power sector, to marketing and on-boarding of maximum demand customers to the grid. She has worked in the Power sector for 5 years.
She is interested in Renewable Energy as she understands that it is the future, and is learning. She underwent a training (The Complete Leadership Course) amongst others where she learnt how specific leadership styles are effective in leading a team.

Obianuju Ukwueze

Obianuju is a well-experienced and highly motivated Marketing Professional with twelve years proven track record in business development and sales. (Banking and Power sector). 
She is a graduate of Computer Science and recently completed her MBA at Lagos Business School, the graduate business school of Pan-Atlantic University. 
Currently heads the Business Development team at Ikeja Electric, the largest Power distribution company in Nigeria. Managing the Renewable Energy and Business optimization team in a bid to drive energy growth across the Ikeja Electric network to meet customers’ demands. 
She led the Bilateral Power team in 2019 in the marketing of a novel concept “Bilateral Power Initiative” and has successfully signed up over 20 estates within the Ikeja network. 
She enjoys travelling and is also good at identifying the innate skills of people around her.

Contracts and Corporate Advisory Lead, Ikeja Electric (IE)

Yemisi is a legal practitioner with over 14 years’ experience of providing legal advice to both public and private sector clients on diverse commercial transactions. She currently heads the Contracts and Corporate Advisory team in Ikeja Electric Plc, Nigeria’s largest electricity distribution company and she is responsible for the preparation, negotiation, and management of the contract portfolio for the company. She also provides legal advisory services to the company on commercial and regulatory risk associated with the business in a dynamic electricity market environment. Yemisi is currently working with relevant stakeholders for the development of renewable energy projects in alignment with the company’s strategy on energy growth.
